Mapping Typology: the decision to not do something is a workshop in which Atelier NL, together with MU, reveals the wonders of the everyday and the local. Atelier NL specialises in transforming everyday environments by shifting perspectives. As a participant, you are challenged to recognise social and cultural patterns by collecting everyday objects, lost items and materials from the area.

The specific qualities, quantities and distribution of found elements show us how we can map our world in new ways. If you take a closer look at your surroundings, you will discover a hidden world of unexpected patterns and special stories. By zooming in and concentrating on specific qualities and elements which you can find in any environment, you start to see the everyday and the rich complexity hidden in an area. Atelier NL will guide you in mapping, archiving and arranging your findings. Each person collects and organises materials in a unique way, indicating how they perceive the world around them and where their interests lie. Thus, each person's collections will reveal as much about themselves as they do about the area. Fig 250

→ OUTCOME

The workshop consists of four phases. In the introduction, Atelier NL takes you along their work and the essence of sand. In the second part, you look for objects and materials in the area, which you then arrange in different ways in the third phase. Finally, we will connect the findings to the principles of the Hara Hachi Bu village and discuss what it was like to do, or not do, something.
